Look, we get it. Buying gear for a dog shaped like a sausage isn’t exactly straightforward. Sometimes that harness looked perfect online, but your doxie decided to turn into a liquid and slip right out of it. Or maybe you bought a sweater for a standard and realized your “standard” has been enjoying a few too many treats and needs a size up.

We want you and your low rider to be happy. But we’re also running a business here, not a free rental service for Instagram photoshoots. Here is the straightforward, no-nonsense guide to returning stuff to Fat Willy.

The 30-Day Window

You have 30 days from the date your order lands on your doorstep to initiate a return. That is one full month.

That is enough time to try it on (indoors, please), realize it’s not the vibe, and send it back. If you wait 31 days, or wait until your dog has buried the item in the backyard, we can’t help you. The window is firm because inventory moves fast in the wiener dog world.

Eligibility: The “No Fur, No Funk” Rule

To get a full refund, the item needs to come back to us in the exact condition you received it. We are strict about this because nobody wants to buy a “new” coat that smells like someone else’s wet dog.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be:

  • Unused and unwashed: Trying it on for size is fine. Taking it for a muddy romp at the dog park is not.
  • Hair-free: We love dachshund glitter (fur) as much as you do, but please lint roll the item before sending it back. If it looks like a shedding piebald slept on it, we can’t restock it.
  • In original packaging: Tags must still be attached. Don’t rip them off until you’re sure it fits.

Non-Returnable Items

Some things just can’t come back, mostly for hygiene and safety reasons. We can’t accept returns on:

  • Perishable goods: Treats, supplements, or food items.
  • Personalized items: If it has “Frankie the Wiener” embroidered on it, it’s yours forever.
  • Gift cards: Obviously.
  • Sale items: Anything marked as “Final Sale.”

How to Initiate a Return

We’ve made this as painless as possible, unlike trimming a dachshund’s nails.

  1. Email Us: Send a message to cs@fatwilly.com with your Order Number and the reason for the return. Be honest—if it didn’t fit the broad chest/tiny waist ratio, let us know so we can help you size correctly next time.
  2. Get the Label: If your return is approved, we’ll send you instructions on where to send the package.
  3. Pack it Up: Secure the item in its original packaging.
  4. Ship it: Drop it off at the carrier specified in the email.

Shipping Costs

  • If you changed your mind or picked the wrong size: You are responsible for the return shipping cost. We suggest using a trackable shipping service, because we can’t refund what we don’t receive.
  • If we messed up (wrong item sent/defective): That’s on us. We will cover the shipping costs and get you the right gear immediately.

Refunds Timeline

Once we receive your return and inspect it (checking for chew marks and fur), we will process your refund.

  • If approved, the money will go back to your original payment method.
  • Please allow 5-10 business days for your bank or credit card company to post the refund. We process it fast, but banks move at the speed of a senior doxie in winter.

Exchanges

Need a different size? The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. Given how tricky dachshund sizing can be—especially with those deep chests—this ensures you get the right fit before it sells out.

Damaged or Defective Items

If you open your package and something is broken, damaged, or defective, contact us immediately at cs@fatwilly.com so we can make it right. We hold our products to high standards, but shipping accidents happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

My dog chewed the harness strap. Can I return it?
Nice try, but no. We build our gear tough, but nothing is indestructible against a bored dachshund with sharp teeth. Wear and tear from chewing is not a manufacturing defect.

I lost the receipt. Can I still return it?
We can usually find your order with your email address or order number. Just reach out to us.

Do you charge a restocking fee?
Generally, no. However, if an item is returned covered in hair or without tags, we reserve the right to deduct a cleaning/restocking fee from your refund or reject the return entirely.
